Man rescued from floodwaters near Geneva

GENEVA, Ind. (WANE/WISH) – A man was rescued from floodwaters near Geneva late Wednesday night.

Emergency crews were called to County Road 300 West around 11 p.m. after a man called 911 and said he was on top of his van trapped by water.

Crews were able to safely rescue the man and get him to dryer ground.

Officials told WANE-TV the man was on his way to pick up his wife when he attempted to drive through the flooded roadway.

They said he was able to exit the van but became trapped on top of the vehicle until emergency crews arrived.

He was not hurt.ADDITIONAL FLOODING

Adams County has been hit very hard by rain and floodwaters, including three water sources around Geneva have been stressed because of recent rainfall.

The Wabash River to the north, Loblolly Creek and Limberlost Creek have also swelled south of the town. Floodwaters have closed a portion of U.S. 27 south of Geneva until further notice.

Madison County will hand out sandbags Monday through Friday to those in need. Officials expect fields to flood first, then possibly the White River which is currently at six feet. Flood stage is 10 feet.

Officials in White County have said the county is under a verbal state of emergency for 72 hours.

Carroll County saw flooding low laying areas near Deer Creek and Wildcat Creek. Residents were told to get sandbags and monitor water levels.
