Pence signs ‘Jenny’s Law’

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) —  Governor Mike Pence signed a new bill into law today to protect victims of sexual assault.

The bill’s called Jenny’s law after Jenny Wendt.

Wendt was raped back in 2005.

In 2014, her attacker confessed but could not be charged as the five-year statute of limitations had already passed.

Wendt began advocating for a change in the way rape cases are handled if new evidence appears.

She says the fact the law is named after her has left her speechless.

“The fact that it’s called Jenny’s Law, I have no words for what that means to me. Maybe one day I will,” said Wendt.

The bill allows police to charge someone after the five-year limit if new evidence comes to the table.

If police find DNA, a recording device or the person confesses, the state can still charge them.
