Tipton County faces aftermath of storm

TIPTON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — As parts of Indiana braced for a chance of severe weather, some people were still cleaning up from the last round.

Crews in Tipton County spent all day Monday clearing debris from Sunday morning’s storm. Officials said crews will be working overtime all week.

Matt Stroup of Tipton said he was inside his mother’s house when the storm started. He said he eventually told his family to get out of the house but before they made it to the door, they heard a loud crashing sound.

That’s when Stroup stepped outside and saw a large tree on top of the house.

“This is the first time it’s been personal for me,” Stroup said. “Not just seeing it on someone else’s home.”

The family ran outside and found shelter in their cars. No one was seriously hurt and Stroup said repairs are covered by insurance.

“We didn’t anticipate that the damage would be as extensive as it is,” he said. “But looking at it in the other perspective, there could have been a lot more damage and a lot more personal injury.”

A county EMA director said crews will be working ten hour shifts this week. He said some church groups and volunteers are also helping with the cleanup.
