2nd woman accused in cab driver assault case enters guilty plea

CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – A plea agreement has been reached with a second woman involved in the case involving the beating and attempted robbery of a Frankfort taxi driver.

Twenty-two-year-old Brenda Garcia pleaded guilty to one felony count of attempted robbery resulting in bodily injury Wednesday afternoon in a Clinton County courtroom. As part of her plea deal, two additional felony charges of aggravated battery and criminal confinement are being dismissed.

The first of three accused in the incident – 20-year-old Nellie King – entered a guilty plea to one count of attempted robbery resulting in serious bodily injury. Her sentencing is set for July.

Garcia, King and 24-year-old Andres Bautista are accused of getting into 73-year-old Frank Hornsby’s taxi and demanding money in November of 2014. Authorities said Hornsby was severely beaten and had to undergo reconstructive surgery at an Indianapolis hospital.

Garcia faces a sentence from 10 to 30 years for the one charge. Her sentencing has been set for July 22.

King told the court in May, Bautista was responsible for attacking Hornsby. According to Deputy Prosecutor John Meyers, Bautista pleaded not guilty. He goes to trial Aug. 11.
