Officials worry over funding for Delaware County Fair

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) – Delaware County leaders say they’re concerned after few people stepped up to donate money to replace funding that will be lost after they canceled this year’s hog wrestling event at the county fair.

Local officials voted last month to remove hog wrestling after online petitioners complained that the event was cruel. About $12,000 was needed to make up the revenue and an account for donations so far only has $855, most of which was pledged by one county commissioner.

Officials told the (Muncie) Star Press that they’re disappointed by the lack of financial support from the hog wrestling opponents. They also said that they’re concerned about the fair overall this year.

The fair board decided to replace hog wrestling with a monster truck show that costs $12,000.
