80 firefighters battle blaze on city’s SE side
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Eighty firefighters battled a house fire Thursday on the southeast side of Indianapolis.
Crews arrived to a home in the 6000 block of S. Arlington Ave. just after 11:30 a.m. and found heavy flames visible. Black smoke could be seen for miles around.
Firefighters from Indianapolis FD and Beech Grove FD responded.
The fire caused an estimated $800,000 worth of damage. It was under control by 2:15 p.m.
The house belongs to a family of six that was not home at the time of the fire. The family’s barn was heavily damaged in a fire back in December.
The cause of Thursday’s fire is under investigation.
One firefighter was taken to the hospital for heat-related injuries.
