Megan Noel shares her top picks for ‘Places to Climb’ in Indy

It’s summer! It’s time to get those kids out of the house and climbing something! Megan Noel, Indy with Kids, has some great ideas!Great parks in Indy

There are tons of great parks to hike in Indy all with varying difficulty of trails, some with unique features like creeks to stomp in, as well. You might check out Richey Woods in Fishers and Fort Harrison State Park, in particular. Fort Harrison also has one of the best sledding hills in the city, and it’s just as much fun to run up it and roll down it in the summer.

A favorite park to climb things is Holliday Park! Holliday Park has some trails with steps, lots of good climbing trees, and great playgrounds, so many opportunities.

Monuments and Sculptures

You definitely want to make sure you obey the “Keep Off ” signs, but there are plenty of places to climb in downtown Indy.

The obvious is the Soldiers and Sailors monument. It’s open Wednesdays-Sundays from 10:30-5:30. Be warned 331 stairs are somewhat steep, narrow, and of course, winding. For someone who is slightly scared of heights the elevator is a welcome option! Elevator prices are only $2 for adults, $1 for children 6-18, free for kids under 5 and for veterans.www.indywithkids.com/locations/soldiers-and-sailors-monument/

IMA’s 100 Acres – Kids can climb, and leap, back and forth on the “Funky Bones” sculpture in this art park.www.indywithkids.com/locations/100-acres-indianapolis-museum-of-art/

Special Events

Touch-a-truck events – There’s one coming up in Carmel in July, so it’s not too late.www.indywithkids.com/indy-area-touch-a-truck-guide-2015/

If you’re heading south of the city, you can hike at Brown County State Park, but it also has an old fire tower you can climb, too, where you can see for miles.

The Waterpark at the Monon Center has a very cool climbing wall, over the pool. And if it’s not pool weather, take it inside.www.indywithkids.com/locations/the-waterpark-at-the-monon-community-center/
