NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (WISH/AP) — Police say two people were fatally injured when a car went out of control after going into high water on a road near Noblesville.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department says the crash happened about 12:30 a.m. Saturday on a county road in a rural area just east of Noblesville. Storms dumped heavy rain in the area late Friday and early Saturday.
The department says the car’s driver, 39-year-old Armando Lara, of Noblesville, was driving when he went off the road, hitting a mailbox and a utility pole. Lara died after he was taken to a Noblesville hospital.
The passenger, who also died, has been identified as a 16-year-old female.
Officials say three juvenile passengers were hurt in the crash. One was taken to an Indianapolis hospital with serious injuries, while the other two suffered minor injuries.
It is unknown whether the occupants were wearing seatbelts.
