IMPD investigating fatal Broad Ripple hit-and-run

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – IMPD is investigating a deadly hit and run crash in Broad Ripple.

It happened early Sunday morning near the intersection of Kessler Boulevard and Crestview Avenue.

No arrests have been made, and police haven’t released a description of the car.

“Its just really sad,” said Chad Pryor, who was woken up by the crash. “Its a sad incident for sure.”

“That’s terrible,” said Laura Isaacson, who also lives nearby.

The crash happened at 4 a.m. Sunday morning.

“[I] looked out our front bedroom window and saw a couple cars stopped with flashers on, saw a person lying in the road, clearly not moving,” said Pryor.

Thomas Abell, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Those who live here say some of the major issues are there are no sidewalks, lighting is bad, and drivers are speeding.

“Lowering the speed limit would help, sometimes it seems like people are going 60 miles an hour, just right in front of our house,” said Isaacson.

“Just lighting in general around Broad Ripple and better sidewalks I think would go a long way in helping address some of our issues,” said Pryor.

Police are asking you to call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS if you have any information.
