Man hit, killed by vehicle on Indy’s northwest side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A man is dead after police say a driver hit him on the northwest side of Indianapolis late Sunday night.

It happened just after 11:30 p.m. near 79th Street and Georgetown Road. According to police, the driver called in, saying that he may have hit someone, but he wasn’t sure.

Officers searched the area for about 30 minutes before they found the man in a ditch. Crews took him to St. Vincent Hospital, but police say he died before arriving. According to IMPD, officers are in contact with the driver.

This is the second deadly incident involving a pedestrian in just about 24 hours. Sunday around 4 a.m., police say someone hit a man near Kessler Boulevard and Crestview Avenue in Broad Ripple and then drove off. When officers got there they found a man dead in the street. Neighbors say it’s very dark in the area and people speed all the time. Police say there is no car or suspect description in that hit-and-run, but if you have any information you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.

Neither of the victims have been identified yet. Officers are waiting to notify their families before releasing their names.
