Gr8 Health Blog – Finding your motivation

I’ll be the first to admit, it’s nearly impossible some days to get off the couch and out the door to exercise. I can always think of a thousand (okay, a million) excuses as to why today is just not a good day. And come to think of it.. tomorrow might not work either. 🙂

It’s so easy to get caught up in life, work, family… and the days go by and the running shoes just don’t get a workout.

I needed to find motivation. What is the reason for heading out? It’s different for everyone.

For me, several years ago, I started ‘running for a reason.’

So many people do it as well: running for a cause, supporting something that needs additional funding.

For me, it’s for ALS research: to raise funds for research for Lou Gehrig’s disease, to hopefully.. someday.. find a cure. I’ve managed to run a race (okay, jog!) many times over the past seven years or so to raise money for ALS.

It’s for that reason – I run. I run because so many people can’t.

Whether it’s to feel better, lose a few pounds, workout with friends, accomplish a workout goal, or to support a charity or something you believe in – I feel it’s so important to keep that motivation close. And we can encourage each other!

So here’s to summer. To enjoying every moment. To having so much to be thankful for. And here’s to lacing up those running shoes even when you’d rather not 🙂Teresa Mackin is a reporter for 24-Hour News 8
