CASS COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – Investigators said Wednesday they hope to soon have closure after 25 dogs and a cat ended up dead in a ditch, including some puppies.

The three separate discoveries were made over a two-week period in April in a rural area near the Cass/Miami County Line.

Authorities said the dogs were all identified as bluetick hounds and some had been shot. Others, they said, were too decomposed to determine a cause of death.

Police have made no arrests and no charges have been filed. But Detective Daniel Neher said the case is still an active investigation.

“Hopefully we’ll have some kind of closure here soon,” said Neher. “We’re still investigating, still following leads as they come in, and working for the end result whatever that may be.”

Authorities said anyone with information is still asked to call the Cass County Sheriff’s Office at 574-753-7800.
