Secretary of State warns of scam targeting business owners

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Secretary of State Connie Lawson wants to make Hoosiers aware of a new scam currently going making its rounds.

The scam involves Hoosiers business owners receiving letters soliciting money as “annual fees” to help with “their recording keeping purposes.”

The letters begin by  citing state law and saying that it comes from phony, made-up government-sounding organizations, such as the Indiana Council of Corporations and the Division of Corporate Services.

The Secretary of State urges all business owners to exercise caution and to be on the look out for these letters.
