Suspicious substance found in and around mailboxes

HAMILTON, Ind. (WANE) An investigation is underway in Steuben County after a yellow granular substance was found Tuesday evening inside a mailbox in Hamilton. Small amounts of the same substance were found on and around other mailboxes in the same area of County Road 700 E and County Road 500 South according to a press release from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department.

According to 24-Hour News 8 sister station, WANE, samples of the substance were taken to be evaluated so investigators know what exactly it is. The affected mailboxes were washed down with water by fire units. Angola Hazmat did make the scene along with Indiana State Police.

Authorities ask anyone who comes across a similar substance to contact local law enforcement. Please do not attempt to remove the substance.
