State ends PR contract prompted by RFRA

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The state is ending a costly public relations contract it entered into following the uproar created by the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation announced Thursday afternoon the contract would be ended early and Porter Novelli would be paid $365,000.

IEDC attributed positive public relations and cost management concerns as some of the factors for cancelling.

“In light of the state’s strong economic news and our ongoing focus on cost management, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) will conclude its contract with Porter Novelli and focus resources on enhancing existing marketing efforts,” IEDC’s executive vice president, Chris W. Cotterill said in part. “We are appreciative of Porter Novelli’s initial guidance that will enable us to redouble our efforts to attract business and tourism to Indiana.”
