Details released after fatal Shelby Co. crash

SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A man died after a crash involving a semi and motorcycle in Shelby County.

Emergency crews responded to a crash at the I-74 entrance ramp of CR 800 E. just before 11 a.m.

The motorcycle driver, Ronald Eakins, 51, of Shelbyville, was pronounced dead at the scene from severe head trauma.

Don Mitchell, 42, of Louisville, was the semi driver. He told police he was driving north from CR 800 E onto the I-74 westbound ramp when he heard something hit the back of his truck.

He says he looked in the mirror and saw a motorcycle and person lying in the road.
