Mother of bullied teen with AIDS speaks at Children’s Museum

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A mother who knows the painful effects of bullying is speaking at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis for the next couple of days.

Jeanne White Ginder and her family endured harassment after her teenage son Ryan White was diagnosed with AIDS in the early 1980’s.

Ryan contracted the virus during a tainted blood transfusion.

Soon after that, some fought in Ryan’s hometown to keep him from attending school because they were afraid of his illness.

Ryan eventually won his battle to attend school, but he would later die in 1990.

Ginder believes Ryan’s story can impact students and adults.

She is back at the Children’s Museum on Monday and Tuesday from 11 a.m to 3 p.m.
