Blood center closing donor centers in Indiana, Ohio cities

RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) – A regional blood center is closing a blood donation center in eastern Indiana and another in Ohio in response to the declining number of blood transfusions at its partner hospitals.

Community Blood Center says it will close its donor centers in Richmond, Indiana, and West Chester, Ohio, on Sept. 25, leaving it with two blood donation centers.

CBC officials tell the Palladium-Item that blood usage has declined by more than 20 percent during the past five years at its 24 partner hospitals because of the declining number of blood transfusions.

CBC fulfills daily blood product needs for 24 partner hospitals in 15 area counties. Those hospitals include Reid Hospital and Health Care Services in Richmond, McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Ohio, and Wayne HealthCare in Greenville, Ohio.
