Sweat transferred from hospital back to maximum security prison

ALBANY, N.Y (WIVB) David Sweat has been released from the Albany Medical Center.

The announcement came Sunday morning after the 3:05 a.m. transfer occurred. For security reasons, the Department of Corrections will not discuss details of his transportation.

Officials say Sweat was moved and is now incarcerated at the maximum-security Five Points Correctional Facility in Romulus, N.Y. where here will remain in the infirmary for the first 24 hours.

Sweat was being treated at the Albany Medical Center since last Sunday after he was shot and captured by NYS Police in upstate New York, ending a 22 day manhunt. Sweat and Richard Matt, who was killed by authorities on June 26, escaped from the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, N.Y. on June 6.

After a full medical evaluation, Sweat will be placed on suicide watch and housed in the Five Points Special Housing Unit in a single cell. The 150 bed facility is a 23 hour confinement unit. His cell is equipped with a bed, a writing platform, a toilet and sink and a facility-controlled shower which will limit movement.

Five Points currently houses 1,294 inmates and has 669 employees, including 511 security staff.
