Lafayette man accused of beating person with golf club

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – A Lafayette man is behind bars for allegedly beating another man with a golf club.

Twenty-three-year-old Matthew Braden was arrested Sunday after a brief police pursuit.

According to 24-Hour News 8 sister station, WLFI, Lafayette police were dispatched on a battery report. When officers got to the area, the victim flagged down an officer on Hartford Street. The victim, who was covered in blood, provided police with a description of the assailant. While one officer was with the victim, another officer observed a suspicious vehicle nearby.

The second officer pursued the vehicle, which took off speeding. Shortly after, the vehicle came to an abrupt stop. Police said Braden, who matched the suspect description, left the vehicle and took off on foot. He entered a nearby residence and police said they could hear a woman yelling at Braden to “get out.”

Lafayette officers were able to get Braden to slowly exit the home. They also stated he was uncooperative with arresting officers.

According to court documents, police said the victim had the distinct imprint from a golf club on his back. Investigators also said they located a bloody golf club lying in the grass nearby and blood on the sidewalk where the incident took place.

Tippecanoe County prosecutors have charged Braden with battery, criminal recklessness, residential entry and resisting law enforcement.
