Sullivan County Sheriff: No vehicle type being ruled out in fatal hit and run accident

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) – Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom is reporting the initial vehicle of interest in regards to the fatal hit and run accident last weekend has been accounted for.

According to 24-Hour News 8 sister station, WTHI, the vehicle that the parts came from and that were found at the scene has been eliminated as the suspect vehicle. At this point Sheriff Cottom is reporting no vehicle type being ruled out in this case.

The accident happened around 10:45 Saturday night on U.S. 41 near Frakes Road. Police say 67-year-old Richard “Ricky” Moon, from Terre Haute was killed in the crash while driving his moped on U.S. 41. 

An autopsy revealed Moon’s cause of death was blunt for trauma from a rear end collision.

The public is encouraged to report any type vehicle with recent front end damage that may have occurred the evening of July 4th, 2015.
