Pike Township student dies after medical issue in football practice

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An Indianapolis teenager died this week after a medical emergency during football practice.

14-year-old Collin Kelly has been identified as the student.

Officials with the Metropolitan School District of Pike Township said the sophomore-to-be had a medical emergency Monday during practice, but it wasn’t clear what that emergency was. Kelly died on Tuesday.

“The entire Metropolitan School District of Pike Township community is deeply saddened by the death of one of our students. We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends for their profound loss,” the school system said in an emailed statement.

Counselors were at the high school Wednesday night and will continue to provide services as needed.
