Police: Indy man caused 2 crashes in stolen car

COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) – An Indianapolis man was arrested this week after police in Columbus say he caused two separate crashes while driving a stolen vehicle.

According to police, around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday officers received several calls about a reckless driver going the wrong way on California Street in Columbus. Shortly afterward, the car reportedly ran a red light and was involved in a crash at 25th Street and Hawcreek Avenue.

Police say the car was then involved in another crash a few blocks down. The driver, identified as 27-year-old Zachary A. Goins, was taken into custody. Officers believed Goins was under the influence of drugs because of how he was acting, so he was taken to a local hospital for a blood draw.

Police searched Goins’ backpack and found a used syringe and a small amount of methamphetamine.

He was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail and preliminarily charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, possession of methamphetamine, possession of legend drug injection device and leaving the scene of a hit and run crash.

Only minor injuries were reported in those two crashes.
