Former worship leader ordered to have no contact with family

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – A former West Lafayette worship leader appeared in front of a judge Monday at the Tippecanoe County Jail.

On Friday, 28-year-old Craig Burden was arrested for voyeurism and sexual gratification with a victim less than 14 years of age.

In his appearance Monday in front of Tippecanoe County Magistrate Dan Moore, Burden was told he is to have no contact with his wife and kids. If released on bond, he is not allowed to return to the home he shared with his family or have any unsupervised contact with anyone under 18 years old.

Prosecutors have put a 72-hour hold on Burden to file formal charges against him. That means Burden can only remain in jail for 72 more hours without having formal charges filed against him. The deadline to file charges in this case is Wednesday by 2 p.m.

As News 18 previously reported, and as Burden told Moore Monday, he has been fired from his job as a worship leader at Calvary Baptist Church in West Lafayette. Burden said since he is unemployed and he cannot have contact with his family, he does not know if he can afford an attorney. He is scheduled to meet with a public defender.

Burden’s bond remains at $10,000.
