IMPD officer sentenced in stolen guns case

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer was sentenced on Tuesday after being accused of stealing guns.

Christopher Dickerson was accused of stealing the guns during an investigation at an abandoned home in November 2014. He was arrested in December.

Dickerson then pleaded guilty in June.

According to court documents, three handguns and ammunition Dickerson was supposed to take to the IMPD property room never made it. Dickerson told police he threw the guns in a river.

Theft and official misconduct charges were dropped.

Dickerson received probation and community service for obstruction of justice.

He will also have to resign from the police force.

IMPD said Dickerson had been an officer for five years.
