Mayor Ballard signs Emergency Declaration after storms

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Mayor Greg Ballard has signed an Emergency Declaration that will help city workers in cleaning up damage from Monday’s storms.

By declaring an emergency, DPW crews now have the ability to close roadways and city workers can enter private property for the purpose of removing trees.

Currently, Emergency Operations crews are out addressing issues related to fallen trees and limbs.

The DPW Operations team is also driving regular rain routes, as specified in the Indianapolis- Marion County Flood Response Plan to check out areas that regularly flood, such as:

  • 1200 block of E 91st, near Haverstick Creek
  • The intersection of 58th/Stonehill near the White River, Indy North levee
  • 600 block of W Troy near Hyland Creek
  • Cape Cod Circle near Howland Ditch

IPL crews have restored power to approximately 35,000 customers after 65,000 were affected by high winds and lightning.

Power restoration is expected to continue through late Friday; priority will be given to customers who have been without power the longest.
