Man arrested after woman found dead in basement

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Detectives in Indianapolis said on Wednesday they have made an arrest for a murder on the east side of the city this week.

On Monday, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to the 2500 block of East 18th Street where they found a woman’s body in the basement. Police say the victim, 34-year-old Martha Cronkhite, had been shot multiple times.

Officers detained 32-year-old Stephen Jones at the home and took him in for questioning. Police say Jones has been arrested on a preliminary charge of murder.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will file formal charges.
