Fort Wayne zoo named one of country’s best

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo has been named one of the nation’s best.

TripAdvisor has named the zoo as the seventh best zoo in the country in its ranking of top zoos, the travel website and accommodation reviewer announced Wednesday.

The popular San Diego Zoo was named the top zoo in America. The Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska came in at No. 2, ahead of the St. Louis Zoo at No. 3 , fourth-ranked Zoological Wildlife Foundation in Miami and No. 5 Cape May County Park and Zoo in New Jersey.

TripAdvisor used million of reviews and opinions from travelers, and ranked the top ten zoos based on the quality and quantity of those reviews over a one-year period, the company said.

The zoo this year is celebrating its 50th year in Fort Wayne.

The Top 10 Travelers’ Choice Zoos in the U.S. include:

1.     San Diego Zoo – San Diego, California
2.     Henry Doorly Zoo – Omaha, Nebraska
3.     St. Louis Zoo – Saint Louis, Missouri
4.     Zoological Wildlife Foundation – Miami, Florida
5.     Cape May County Park & Zoo – Cape May, New Jersey
6.     Cheyenne Mountain Zoo – Colorado Springs, Colorado
7.     Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo – Fort Wayne, Indiana
8.     Memphis Zoo – Memphis, Tennessee
9.     Zoo Miami – Miami, Florida
10.  San Diego Zoo Safari Park – Escondido, California
