Transgender ad by Google airs during ESPY Awards

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – During Wednesday night’s ESPY Awards support for those who are transgender was not only in Caitlyn Jenner’s acceptance speech when she received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award, but also in an advertisement from Google.

The commercial which played during the ESPY Awards featured a transgender man’s story – and how his local gym helped him feel accepted.

The owner of City Gym, Hailee Bland Walsh, located in Kansas City said “the guys in the group were born in the female bodies but they have identified as male.”

She said she never intended to create a group like this but said her gym is a place to belong.

“City gym was born with the belief that a gym should be more than a place to work out. it should be a place to belong. When people are looking online for a different type of gym, somewhere that’s safe and inclusive, I want them to find us.”

The 2 minutes and 30 second spot was first released on YouTube last month to celebrate LGBT pride.

Google told USA Today it aired the ad on national television to send a message about the importance of acceptance and equality in the business world.
