One person found dead inside after Fort Wayne house fire

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – One person is dead after an early morning house fire on the city’s southeast side. Firefighters responded to the fire in the 4000 Block of Euclid Avenue of Fort Wayne around 4 a.m. Saturday.

A neighbor called 911 after seeing flames coming from the home. When firefighters arrived, they found flames reaching nearly 20 feet in the air.

According to 24-Hour News 8 sister station, WANE, the adult victim was found dead in one of the heavily burnt areas after the fire was put out. No one else was hurt in the fire.

Firefighters used a high risk tactic known as Vent-Enter-Search to make entry into some rooms of the home. During that process, fire crews entered through exterior windows with firefighters on the outside directed hose streams over their heads to hold back the flames. No victims were found in those areas.

The entire back roof of the home was burnt through. There were two bedrooms on the first floor that weren’t heavily damaged in the fire. Fire officials said the home was a total loss.

The fire was under control in just under 30 minutes.
