Video: Tiz Shea D wins Indiana Derby

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — The 21st running of the Indiana Derby featured some of the most talented 3-year-old colts in the country.

Three horses that ran in one of the Triple Crown races swept by American Pharoah were in the field of eight, which proved to be anybody’s race.

It was a race that was over in 1:43.02, and when it was all said in done it was Tiz Shea D who emerged out of the pack to cross the finish line first and win the $500,000 purse. The winning jockey, José Lezcano, talked about the win afterwards.

“It’s been working very well and all of the guys have been very good, and I sat all the way around. I’ve been watching the races all day and I think the more exciting the better. And to go on and win the race was great,” said Lezcano.

Tiz Shea D claimed victory for the first time since his debut in February at Parx Racing in Pennsylvania.
