Police: 2 hospitalized after falling off moving vehicle in Steuben County

STEUBEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) Two juveniles were airlifted to a hospital after possibly jumping from a moving vehicle Sunday morning, according to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.

According to 24-Hour News 8 sister station, WANE, crews responded around 6:50 to SR 120, East of CR 600 W, to a call reporting two people jumped from a moving vehicle. When officers arrived, the two were found in the road. They were airlifted to Fort Wayne with serious internal injuries. Investigators believe they went up and out of the vehicle’s sunroof before they fell off while it was moving. It’s not clear what they were doing up there.

There were three other juveniles in the vehicle. The driver was arrested for “operating while intoxicated with serious bodily injury of the juvenile driver.” The other two were not charged.

Master Deputy Kevin Kane with the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office said results were pending to determine how many of those five were intoxicated.

ISP and the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office are continuing its investigation into the incident.

Assisting at the scene were the Steuben County Communications, Steuben County EMS, Indiana State Police, Orland Fire and Rescue, and the Parkview Samaritan Helicopter.
