Franklin to dredge creek, fight erosion for flood control

FRANKLIN, Ind. (AP) – Workers will dredge a central Indiana creek and take steps to prevent further erosion to improve water flow and prevent flooding.

The city of Franklin is planning a $415,000 project for Youngs Creek this summer as part of an overall plan to help with drainage throughout the city about 20 miles south of Indianapolis.

City engineer Travis Underhill tells the Daily Journal workers will add large rocks, about 200 trees and 60 shrubs, and regrade areas along the banks.

Underhill says dredging the creek and fighting erosion could help make minor flood control gains, but many small improvements can add up and make a big difference.

He says city officials plan to meet with a contractor soon. Work could begin within a month.
