Virginia man given box of cash instead of food order at drive thru

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) – A good Samaritan got the surprise many only dream of: A box full of cash at a Bojangles! However, he says he was disrespected when he tried to return the money.

James “JJ” Minor says he found $4500 and Suntrust bank deposit slips in his Bojangles bag at the store on Laburnum Avenue. He says he was checking to see if his chicken was hot when he felt paper and plastic instead.

When he went inside to return the money, instead of being thanked for being forthright, he says a manager there threatened to call the cops.

“The manager came and I said, ‘Can you please tell me as a customer why is this money in a Bojangles box? Whose money is it? And, is this a setup? And suppose I would’ve drove off with money – or, anybody could’ve drove off with this money and didn’t notice until they got home… You know what is this, is this a set up? What is this?’ And so the manager says, ‘If you would’ve drove off, we would’ve called the authorities on you.’”

James said another manager apologized and offered him a tailgate special. He says it’s not about receiving a cash reward, because he just did what he was taught. Minor also says the response from Bojangles could’ve been much better.

We reached out to the Bojangles restaurant on Laburnum Avenue for a response and were told to contact the corporate office in North Carolina. We reached out to the corporate office but have not received a call back.
