Crime Stoppers IDs suspects in Fort Wayne dollar store robberies

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) The executive director of Crime Stoppers suspects the same two men are responsible for most of the dollar store robberies in the area, and at least one is in police custody for reasons not connected to the robberies.

According to 24-Hour News 8 sister station,WANE, although police can’t charge the persons of interest with armed robbery because the suspects were wearing masks and no identification was made, Crime Stoppers Executive Director Greg Lewis told Newschannel 15 he suspects they’re responsible. He said they’ve been working together since the beginning of the year.

One of the men is in police custody after carrying a handgun gun without a license and resisting law enforcement. Police said on July 13 the man was at the Burger King off of Spy Run Avenue. After running from police and ending up in the river nearby, police went back to his car and found a loaded gun. He’s currently in jail with a $10,000 bond.

City discount stores have been the target of robbers often this year. At least 13 dollar stores have been robbed this year, Lewis said.
