Indiana woman charged with faking nursing license, cancer

GREENFIELD, Ind. (AP) – A 29-year-old Hancock County woman has been charged with faking a nursing license and other state documents.

Ashley Trent of McCordsville faces charges of forgery, deception, theft and practicing nursing without a license. She’s accused of forging a nursing license and working as a nurse for Developmental Service Alternatives in Greenfield from late 2012 to early 2014.

The company learned about the scam when Trent’s license was up for renewal. Court documents show Trent created a fake document from the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency, saying she couldn’t renew her license because of a computer glitch, instead of producing a renewed license.

Trent also is accused of forging letters from IU Health that claimed she had breast cancer.

It wasn’t immediately known if Trent has an attorney.
