Pence recognizes students who excel at math and science

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Gov. Mike Pence is recognizing four recent Indiana high school graduates for their accomplishments in math and science.

Pence awarded the two males and two females each a $1,000 scholarship and bestowed them with the title of Mr. or Miss Math or Science.

Adam Lonnberg of Evansville’s Signature School and Margaret Christy of Indianapolis Franklin Central were named 2015’s Mr. and Miss Math.

Adit Chandra and Helena Ma, both from Carmel High School were named Mr. and Miss Science.

The annual awards are intended to highlight student achievement in so-called STEM classes, which stands for science, technology, engineering and math.

The students were nominated for the award by a panel that included teachers as well as science and technology professionals.
