FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Several members of the IPFW Women’s Basketball team were cited for underage drinking early Thursday morning, according to a source.

All but two players were at an on-campus party when IPFW police arrived and found several individuals drinking alcohol who were underage.

The source said multiple team members have been cited for “minor in possession of alcohol.” That could include as many as seven players.

A university police officer who answered the phone at the department’s office deferred comment to the IPFW police chief, who is not available until later Thursday morning.

According to the IPFW Athletics Department website, the 2015-2016 roster includes 13 players and six who are either freshmen or sophomores.

IPFW Sports Information Director Bill Salyer issued a statement to 24-Hour News 8’s sister station WANE-TV on behalf of the department early Thursday morning.

“Until we are able to gather information, we are unable to comment.”

It’s not currently known which members of the team were issued citations. It’s also unknown if members of other IPFW sports teams were in attendance.
