LAREDO, Texas (KXAN) – The official events surrounding Donald Trump’s visit to the border have been scrapped. The bombastic billionaire is still en route to the valley city.

Earlier today the AFL-CIO Union officials canceled the local chapter plans for meeting with Trump.

After much talk about immigration this is Trump’s first trip to the border. He is now the GOP’s front runner in several national polls after voicing his opinions regarding political and immigration process reform.

Trump sparked a controversy when he called illegal immigrants “rapists” several weeks ago. Today Former Governor Rick Perry’s campaign released a statement saying that Perry hopes Trump apologizes to the border town of Laredo and Hispanic-Americans for such a comment.

Trump arrives in Laredo at 1 p.m.
