Neighbors rush to help Franklin woman set on fire by her husband

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — A Johnson County woman is still in critical condition after neighbors say she was set on fire by her estranged husband in front of their 10-year-old daughter.

The incident happened near the 100 block of Highland Avenue in Franklin.

Those who lived next to Donn and Amy Keever say the couple recently filed for divorce. They were married for 19 years and had three children together.

“I heard a women scream for help. I looked outside and she was literally on fire. At the same time, her little girl came out with her friend. I told her to get a towel. I started to smother her with my hands and feet while dialing 911 at the same time,” said neighbor Jennifer Lewis.

Moments before medics arrived, Lewis said she had a chilling conversation with Amy before she was rushed to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital.

“She was talking to me. I asked her, ‘Who did this to you?’ And she said, ‘My ex-husband, he poured gasoline on me.’ I then told her to get on the ground to stop, drop and roll,” said Jennifer Lewis.

Several witnesses said while Amy was on fire, Donn jumped in his vehicle and drove off. Within the same hour, his journey ended on I-65.

Police say he died after hitting a semi head-on while driving the wrong way on the interstate.

The semi driver, 50-year-old Toby Klar, was not injured. Two more vehicles were involved, but no one was hurt.
