Lafayette woman sentenced for causing burns to baby

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A Lafayette woman faces prison time after admitting she caused serious injuries to her 6-week-old baby.

Kristin Wesley, 26, was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to neglect of a dependent resulting in serious bodily injury.

Police were called to her home in June of 2014, where they found the baby so badly burned his skin was peeling off. The baby was flown to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health, where doctors determined he had second degree burns on 20 percent of his body.

Wesley said she does not remember how the baby was injured, but doctors say the injuries are consistent with a pouring burn pattern.

She was sentenced to 15 years behind bars, with three years suspended.
