SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — Police in Shelbyville say a pedestrian was seriously injured Tuesday morning after he was hit by a vehicle.

It happened at West Mechanic and North Harrison streets. According to Shelbyville Police Department Lt. Mike Turner, the driver was heading east on W. Mechanic St. and started to turn north on N. Harrison St. when the incident happened.

Lt. Turner says the 56-year-old pedestrian walked into the roadway, and the driver didn’t see him. The man suffered injuries to his head after being hit, Turner said.

The man, who hasn’t been identified, pending notification of family, was taken by medical helicopter to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. His condition was unknown mid-Tuesday morning.

Turner says the driver showed no signs of impairment and passed the test given by officers. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
