Former Lafayette surgeon pleads guilty to escape

MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – A former Lafayette surgeon who was once accused of plotting to kill his ex-wife has pleaded guilty to escape.

Gregory Konrath, 49, entered the plea Thursday morning in Miami County County Superior Court.

Konrath was on home-detention when he cut off his tracking bracelet on Tuesday, April 28. He was found two days later near Flagstaff, Arizona.

Konrath had been released from jail just two weeks prior to his escape, after serving time on stalking charges. The charges stemmed from Konrath’s alleged plot to kill his ex-wife. The attempted murder charge was dropped.

Miami County Deputy prosecutor Christian Sands says Konrath also pleaded guilty Thursday to probation and in-home detention violation, which occurred when Konrath fled to Arizona.

According to his lawyer, Eric Huneryager, Konrath faces a maximum of two-and-a-half-years behind bars and nine years on probation. His sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 18.

Konrath is currently being held without bond in the Miami County Jail.
