NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Possibly thousands of people are affected by outages from major wireless network and cell phone carriers like AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint. U.S. Cellular and T-Mobile.
The outages reportedly affect a number of states, including Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia and Oklahoma.
Both AT&T and Verizon have begun responding to customers via their Twitter accounts, letting them know they’re aware of the issues and working to fix them.
Officials with AT&T said:
Some customers across parts of the Southeast are experiencing wireline and wireless service issues. Engineers have pinpointed a hardware-related issue and are working to restore service as quickly as possible. We apologize for this inconvenience.
Kathy Lewandowski, Senior PR Manager for AT&T, said she has no idea how many people are affected.
Verizon said they are also having a connectivity issue. A statement from the company said”
Our engineers are aware of this issue and are working with our vendor partners to resolve this issue quickly. At present we do not have an estimated time of resolution.
Sprint also said they’re aware some customers may be unable to access voice and data services. The company released the following:
This appears to be an issue caused by a local exchange provider and our network team is working with the provider to restore service to impacted customers as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience.
We understand that all mobile providers are being affected in a regional area. Our engineers are in touch with the vendor regarding the source of the issue affecting customers. They are working to restore service in the area as soon as possible.
U.S. Cellular also issued the following statement:
U.S. Cellular and other wireless providers are currently experiencing a service disruption across the Southeast, including some areas in Tennessee. The carriers use a third-party vendor to transmit traffic from cell sites to wireless devices, and that vendor currently is experiencing a major outage. The U.S. Cellular engineering team reported that two of that vendor’s routers are down, and that is the cause for the service disruption. U.S. Cellular’s top priority is providing an excellent wireless experience to our customers, and we will update you when the outage is resolved.
