AVON, Ind. (WISH) — For the first time ever, the Avon Police Department organized a National Night Out party.
The event was held Tuesday evening at the Hendricks Regional Health campus off U.S. Highway 36.
The event featured music, games, food, and public safety demonstrations.
Avon Police Chief Sean Stoops said it gave the community an opportunity to have fun and get to know local officers on a personal level.
“It’s all a part of community policing and making sure there’s an open line of communication between police and our residents,” Chief Stoops said. “If that breaks down, we’re not going to know about crime that might be taking place in our community and our residents aren’t going to know proper ways to help prevent that crime.”
The event went until 8 p.m.
