Police identify person of interest in Lafayette double homicide

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Lafayette police said detectives have identified a person of interest in the double homicide case stemming from a shooting Tuesday on Perrine Street.

Police said a person of interest is currently in custody on unrelated charges.

Aaron Hunter Jr., 36, and Terry Smith Jr., 46, both of Lafayette, died following the shooting outside a home on Perrine Street early Tuesday morning. Police said one of them was conscious when they arrived, but only gave information about his injuries not about the incident.

When police searched nearby areas, they found shell casings and a firearm believed to be involved in the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time.
