Police: Tenn. theater attacker had suicidal, homicidal thoughts
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – In police reports released Thursday, it was revealed that the Tennessee movie theater attacker had previous thoughts of suicide and homicide.

According to a report dated Feb. 18, 2004, Vincente David Montano’s mother notified Murfreesboro police that her son was “having thoughts suicide; as well as homicide.”
Montano’s mother stated to police that her son had told her he had been hearing voices “telling him to do things.”
She added at the time, Montano had been “very destructive” and had been breaking things in the house.
At that time, Montano was transported to an area hospital for a mental evaluation. No charges were filed against him.
In three separate occasions, Murfreesboro police were called to Montano’s home that he shared with his mother for domestic disturbances.
In one instance on Sept. 5, 2004, Montano told police his mother “controlled him” and would not give him his medication.
His mother stated that she “feared that her son would not responsibility take his medication” and that she was trying to take legal custody of her son due to his mental condition.
Later the same day, officers were called back to the home for another incident.
According to the report, while at the home, it was agreed police would give Montano a ride to the airport so he could go to Chicago after his mother could “no longer deal with his mental instability.”
When police told him it was time to leave, he began waving his arms wildly toward the officer.
Handcuffs were placed on Montano and he was booked into the Rutherford County jail on charges of simple assault on an officer and resisting.
Montano’s mother reported her 29-year-old son missing on Aug. 3, just two days before the attack at the Antioch movie theater. In that report, his mother stated that Montano was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 2006.
Montano was shot and killed by police Wednesday afternoon after he entered a Bell Road movie theater armed with a hatchet and airsoft pistol.
Three movie goers sustained minor injuries in the attack.
