Polian draped in gold ahead of Hall of Fame honor

CANTON, Ohio (WISH) – Two days before he enters the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Bill Polian received his gold jacket, a symbol of joining one of the most elite fraternities in sports.

Polian served as president of the Indianapolis Colts for years.

Polian – along with seven others including former Notre Dame stars Jerome Bettis and Tim Brown – were honored in a special ceremony at the Canton, Ohio Civic Center. Polian says he could never have dreamed of such an honor, but after leading three downtrodden NFL franchises to the top, he is part of the class of 2015.

Polian was hired by Colts owner Jim Irsay in 1998 and drafted quarterback Peyton Manning with his first pick that year. The Colts have become one of the league’s model franchises ever since.

The induction ceremony for Polian and others is Saturday night.
