Gas leak forces businesses to close, residents to evacuate

GREENFIELD (WISH) – The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department evacuated the area around the Pott’s Ditch project on Saturday morning.

According to officials, the closed businesses and evacuated residents as a precaution when a gas line began to leak in the construction zone around the project.

Vectren was on site, attempting to contain the leak. Officials stated that they  and restricted roads, sidewalks and alleys.

There was no access to the Greenfield Post Office.

Officials stated that the area would remain blocked off until Vectren deemed the area safe.
