Man accused of several squad car thefts pleads guilty

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH/AP) — An Indianapolis man arrested for several thefts to squad cars pleaded guilty.

According to court records, Christopher Byrne was sentenced to in home detention for 730 days.

In February the United State Marshals released information that Byrne was charged for vandalizing and stealing items left in squad cars after a lengthy investigation.

Authorities began investigating after a Greenwood Police Department vehicle was found torched in Franklin last October. Police discovered a rifle, computer and breathalyzer were missing from the burned vehicle.

Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved during the investigation. They say they found the stolen rifle, as well as a computer that was stolen from an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department vehicle last fall.
